He and Cacko recently met up for libations and a bullfight in Santiago, Chile. WKN! caught up with Spencer at an internet cafe via A.I.M. chat.
WKN!: So did u meet Shaun?......your Dad that is
Spencer: ya, i saw him sunday and today
WKN!: Where are you staying right now?
Spencer:a hostel right off the main sqaure

WKN!: How old are you and where did you just spend last semester
Spencer: im 20, and spent the last semester studying in La Plata, Argentina. its the provincial capital of the province of Buenos Aires, about an hour outside of the city of Buenos Aires
WKN!: what do you see yourself doing for a living?
Spencer: I'm in ROTC at the moment so the plan is to do my four years of active duty in the army after college, and then possible travel for a year, and finally find a job in the foreign relations sphere of the government. I'de like to concentrate in Latin America, but who know what will happen and how my interests will change

WKN!: What do you dislike most about being in the States?
Spencer: lack of exposure to the rest of the world. you can find interesting people anywhere, fine, but there is nothing like getting the perspective of the other by travelling outside the US borders. outside of*
WKN!: how do Argentineans view the U.S?
Spencer: well, ive had plenty of exposure to that topic. I'll do the best i can to capture it all
the short answer is that the US is viewed as the evil imperialist machine that keeps argentina in its state of dependence in relation to the rest of the world. It is an extremely biased view because that is all they have ever been told. I dont really get too mad about it though cause we americans have pretty one sided views of alot of other countries that in reality we know nothing about. that's why i stressed the importance of the "perspective of the other" before. Until one has inserted themselves in another's world, its impossible and unjust to pass accurate judgments about that world but they eat up our pop culture like crack
WKN!: So do you feel an obligation to serve the world as a global citizen or just simply the interests of the U.S. government?
Spencer: haha wow, theres a heavy question both? If it comes down to it, the United States. but if im presented with an ethical situation ill do what i think is right, not was pleases my superiors
WKN!: This will be your first time voting in a presidential election. Thoughts and feelings?
Spencer: I'm going to line up the issues and vote for the candidate that most closely matches mine, regardless of party. It'll be an interesting one, more so i think than that of 2000 or 2004
and depending upon who wins, it very well may determine whether or not i go to Iraq, so im paying attention for sure
WKN!: I read that the level of violence in Iraq is at it's lowest point since our engagement but Iraqi leaders aren't really seizing the opportunity to the extent they could be
Spencer: to be honest i dont know too much about that. (though i really should) I did hear though, that the Iraqi forces took charge of one of the major cities, relieving US troops. thats a goos sign and a step in the right direction
WKN!: So I understand you met up with some WitwerKids today in Chile....what was Catherine like? Did you meet Diego?
Spencer: Catherine was sooo nice! its always great to find family in unexpected places. I've really enjoyed meeting her and the time ive spent with her. Yes i met Diego, he's an upright guy, i like him alot. they seen to work well together
WKN!: Alright Spence we'd better wrap up this interview. Whats the most profound thing you've realized about your place in the world in the past 5 months
and for the record how many summers have you spent at Camp..how many times have you been to my Grandparent's house in Key West and how many times have you been to Kendallville?
Spencer: first question- everytime you think you have it figured out, life surprises you. AND- I am not alone
